Why was there no QDRO in my package?

A QDRO is the abbreviation that relates to an order splitting up a retirement account. It allows for a transfer of funds without a typical early withdrawal penalty that may apply to other transfers out of certain retirement accounts. We do not prepare QDRO’s because the financial institutions that manage these accounts prefer to use their own forms and would likely force you to use their form even if you presented them with your own signed and completed form. If your divorce includes the division of a retirement account such as an IRA, 401-K or ESOP, then have the spouse who holds the account ask for the form from the managing company so you and your spouse can use that one.
